THEN hath a man attained to the estate of perfection in his life and conversation, when he so spends every day, as if it were his last day.

MARCUS AURELIUS. MEDITATIONS. Book vii. 40.

WHATSOEVER thou dost affect, whatsoever thou dost project, so do, and so project all, as one who, for aught thou knowest, may at this very present depart out of this life.

MARCUS AURELIUS. MEDITATIONS. Book ii. 8.

AS it is impossible to assent to an evident falsehood, or to deny an evident truth, so it is impossible to abstain from an evident good.

EPICTETUS. DISCOURSES. Book iii. §7. ¶1.

EVIDENT good at first sight attracts, and evil repels. Nor will the soul any more reject an evident appearance of good than they will Caesar's coin.

EPICTETUS. DISCOURSES. Book iii. §3. ¶2.

  1. Well I much prefer Marcus' sayings to Epictetus' today... :)

Each day we must live our lives ever mindful that this day could be our last. Would the words we have uttered, deeds we have done, actions that we have taken be our testimony of character in this life? May we all strive to live life mindful that each moment could very well be our last.

  2. What would I do today if I really knew that it was my last? Would I stand, at the end, and whimper 'I don't want to go..' or would I calmly release my energy? And how would I spend my last day? I would tell my family and friends, one more time, what joy they have brought me, and offer them yet again, the perspective I have on life. This is what my life has been, and would be to the end.
